Happy Fifth Anniversary, CZOBP

Hi Everyone,
Today marks an important date—we’re celebrating the 5th anniversary of Czech Off the Beaten Path. I started this blog back in 2007 as a form of therapy when my expat life was still new. By "therapy," I mean it was a way to share some of my adventures and frustrations with the beginning of my expat life. Czech Off the Beaten Path became not only a form of therapy, but the blog developed as a way to reach out to other expats who were on similar journeys. Through this blog and  events, such as World Blog Surf Day, I've been able to “meet” new people, enjoy their company and learn from their expat experiences. I’m still in touch with several of these expat friends—ties that would never have developed without starting this blog.

Blogging here has been a learning experience, along with being a fun adventure.Writing CZOBP (Czech Off the Beaten Path) has also led to some freelance work, and even helped to open up levels of creativity I didn’t realize were within me. One big lesson from this blogging adventure has been:  Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone—reach out, learn, explore—you'll gain more experience and knowledge, meet new people, etc.--it's an adventure--it's life!

Starting this blog was a huge endeavor five years ago, and this year’s been a challenging one on many levels;  I’ve not been able to write here as often as in the past. Other issues, including health trouble, have had to take precedence. That’s just Life. My goal is to take up writing regularly again as soon as possible. Czech Off the Beaten Path’s still alive at five years old—and I’m celebrating today’s anniversary!

Všech Svatých—All Saints Day

Tomorrow, November 1st, is an important commemoration in the Czech Republic:  Všech Svatých, or All Saints Day. This holiday is celebrated by Christians around the world in many and varied ways. On this day, all departed loved ones and friends are remembered in prayer. This has become one of my favorite holidays in the Czech Republic (aside from Christmas—which is beautiful here). The Czechs have a very lovely and moving way of celebrating Všech Svatých. I wrote a post about this a couple years ago—you can read it here.

That’s all for today. I’d like to wish you all a very Happy Halloween and a wonderful All Saints Day. Happy 5th anniversary, Czech Off the Beaten Path—we’ve come a long ways, and still have miles (and kilometers) to go together!

Have a great day.

God bless,
Sher :0)

Congratulations on your fifth blog-anniversary Sher! It is a shame that you haven't written very many posts recently though I do understand why. Last night, I reached another significant milestone when I wrote & posted blogpost number 200 :-)

Hi Chaplain,
Thank you! I'm working on getting better and back to writing here more again. I do need prayers and healing thoughts--so if you and other readers could send them my way, I'd be most appreciative.

Congrats on your 200th post! That's also an important milestone!

Have a great day,
Sher :0)
