Happy Thanksgiving 2010

Hi Everyone,
Thanksgiving is here!  Can you believe it?  Where has the year gone?  It's been a very busy year, and it's not over yet!  Things have been very here, at Czech Off the Beaten Path--at least for the writer (me).  So time has passed very quickly!

Czechs don't celebrate Thanksgiving as a holiday as we do in the U.S., so Thursday will be just another work day here.  But back home, my family's gathering together and baking and cooking in preparation for their Thanksgiving dinner.  We are planning on connecting via the Internet today--I'm looking forward to being with my family at least in an electronic form!

Even though Czechs don't celebrate Thanksgiving, Jiri and I usually do have a celebration on the weekend.  Our home is blended between American and Czech traditions and holidays, which is really nice--it's like having the best of both the Old and New Worlds.  We will have some friends over on Saturday, and I'm cooking a traditional dinner.  I'm really looking forward to our time together.

That's all for today!  I would like to wish each and every one of you a beautiful and very happy Thanksgiving (even if you don't normally celebrate this holiday).  We should celebrate Thanksgiving every day by being thankful for all the blessings we receive with new each day.

Have a great and happy day!

God bless,
Sher :0)

Over here in Germany we don't celebrate Thanksgiving either, but I hear a lot about it (especially the food) from my brother and his family who live in the U.S.!

@aldon: Thank you! We did--it was fun to have our friends over and share a more or less traditional Thanksgiving dinner with them.

Have a great day,

@Duni,
It's so funny--many Americans believe this holiday is celebrated in Europe! I don't know why that is!

In our home, we have a blended marriage with both Czech and American holidays being celebrated. For Christmas and Easter, we borrow traditions from both sides, so we have nice Czech/American blended holidays :0)

And the food is great :0) At least, I hope the dinner I prepared was great! :0)

Have a great day,

Must admit I had never really thought about Thanksgiving until I started to interact with Americans online - though there is one question - if you have Turkey for Thanksgiving - what do you have for Christmas - or is it same again?

When I used to make an effort at Xmas - which was a while ago- frankly after all the cooking - one lot of over eating with Turkey, roast vegs, pudding etc etc - was more than enough for the year!

The combo of holidays I do like are German/Dutch friends who celebrate Xmas Eve and then do New Zealand Xmas day as well!

@Lissie: Thanks so much for visiting my blog and leaving comments! I have read and learned from your writing at your blog and HubPages!

Well, most Americans do have turkey twice, or opt for goose or duck. Here, my husband asked for duck, as this is a traditional Christmas Day meal here. I cooked my first duck and it was good!

Learning new traditions to celebrate Christmas really is fun. You can keep some of the best from your own traditions, while incorporating some of the best from the new traditions. My husband and I have a mix of Czech-American traditions--and it works out pretty well!

Have a great day,
